OVERSHINE 2

The ‘Overshine 2’ is among the most architecturally resolved frames to emerge from John Galliano’s early 2000s eyewear work at Christian Dior — a full-coverage black acetate shield that sits somewhere between protective eyewear and wearable sculpture. Rarer on the secondary market than the Punk or the Softie, it commands attention from collectors who know the catalog. It features:

- Oversized shield silhouette in black acetate with substantial, architectural depth
- Full black lenses — lens width 70mm, lens height 52mm — for complete coverage
- Wide 140mm frame with close 110mm temple length for a secure, flush fit
- Temple engraved “OVERSHINE 2 N5S95 110” — the official model designation
- Includes original Christian Dior hard case

The acetate construction carries a weight and quality that distinguishes early Galliano-era Dior eyewear from contemporary shield frames. The frame is made to be felt on the face, not forgotten.

Unlike the Punk — louder in its cultural references — the Overshine 2 makes its argument through scale and proportion alone. The full black lens and oversized frame create a complete visual block; the face disappears, the frame speaks. Two decades on, it reads as a precursor to every shield silhouette produced since, and it does so with an authority none of them have matched.
